Minutes of August 11, 2010
Meeting was called to order by President Dave Sheely at 7:32AM with 13 Members
present
Minutes from July were approved.
The treasurer’s report was given by Marie Hartley and approved.
Under Old Business:
a. We currently have 33 paid members for 2010.
b. The Farmers Market is going well and should continue into September.
c. The Fire Department Field Day was well attended and may become an annual
event.
d. The Battle of the Bands took in $500 to be applied toward the Heritage
Festival. There were over 350 attendees.
e. The City Wide Garage sale took in $300. Next year due to being tied to the
127 longest garage sale we will have to start on Thursday.
f. The ribbon cutting at All Gods Gifts was a success and that business is now
open.
Under new business
a. The Heritage festival meetings are on Thursday nights.
b. The City and the Chamber now have separated web sites but they have links to
each other.
c. Discussed forming a membership committee to visit all prospective members for
2011.
d. Officers need to be selected for the upcoming election in November. Bruce Van
Wieren resigned as secretary due to time constraints. The Chamber thanked Bruce
for his years of service to the Chamber.
e. Joanne Crater said that she would fill in as secretary until the elections.
City Report
City Manager, Steve Hartsel updated the group on several projects..
a. Work on M34 through town will begin soon and crews on 127 have to update all
handicap intersections.
b. Hornet Mfg, Kecy Mfg, and Homer Donaldson Company are all expanding and are
hiring.
c. Alpine Industries in the old Mettaloy foundry should open in November
d. The Jackson Street sewer lift station reconstruction bid opening is on Aug
24th.
Local Business News
a. School starts Tuesday, September 7th.
b. The first football game is August 27th with Hillsdale.
c. The school is looking at expanding classes in foreign languages and computer
science.

Meeting was called to order by President Dave Sheely at 7:35AM with 12 Members

The treasurer’s report was given by Marie and approved.
Under Old Business:
a. We currently have 24 paid members for 2010.
b. Don’t forget to check the status of your information regularly on the Chamber
portion of the Website: www.hudsonmich.com. The City is getting a new web
address under a dot gov domain. There was some discussion on keeping our
hudsonmich.com due to its heavy use. Motion by Randy Darr 2nd by Dave Wilhite to
pay Rob Hall to maintain a Chamber site at hudsonmich.com. Passed
c. The Farmers Market will stare at the Community Center lot on Saturdays
starting June 5. Spaces will rent for $5 per week or $25 for the season. Spaces
can be rented through the City Office. So far there is one tenant.
Under new business
a. Fire Field Day/Battle of the Bands is scheduled for July 31 and will be
called Fire Field Day. Events will start at 10:00 AM. Other safety events are
being looked at and a battle of bands is scheduled in the afternoon.
b. The Circus has contacted us about coming to town. Some discussion was held on
whether we should sponsor it. It seems to be a lot of work for the little return
even though it is a great time for families in the surrounding area.
City Report
a. City Manager, Steve Hartsel reported that the new round of downtown façade
grants is a 75/25 match instead of the 50/50 match previous.
b. The DDA will meet on Wednesday May 19 to discuss a potential lease of 306 W
Main St.
c. The DDA approved a loan to the incoming tenant of the Metaloy Foundry to help
with the environmental requirements.
d. Hornet Mfg, Kecy Mfg, and Homer Donaldson Company are all expanding and will
be hiring.
e. Dennis Smokes restaurant opening is pushed back to the end of the Calendar
year.

Under Old Business:
a. We currently have 17 paid members for 2010, Dues notices have been
distributed by email.

c. Karen Miller reported that work on the placemats is progressing with 8
advertising spots having been sold and 8 still available. Cost for an ad is $32
for Chamber members and $50 for non-members. She can be reached at 517-499-6982
or at Stillwell Ford in Hillsdale. She sold 2 more at the meeting so there are
now 6 spots still available.
d. The purple lights on the downtown trees have been replaced on 4 of the trees
with 6 more to be completed as soon as DPW finishes with snow removal.
e. There was a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Quaint and Quirky Resale Shop and
the newly named Small Town Variety Store at 304 and 302 W. Main St.
f. Randy Darr thanked Bruce and Angie Van Wieren for making the side store front
North of Subway on Church St available for the sports equipment exchange.
Remodeling is progressing and they hope to open soon.
Under new business
a. The Farmers Market will be back at the Community Center lot on Saturdays.
Spaces will rent for $5 per week or $25 for the season. Opening date will be
either May 23 or the 29th. Some discussion on whether or not to allow crafts and
if so Chamber will establish a criteria to follow.
b. Bean Creek Festival meetings are being held the 2nd Thursday, 7:00 PM, at the
Community Center.
c. Chamber President gave a list of 10 available commercial properties in the
downtown area to the City office for marketing. There are at least two
prospective renters for 306 W. Main st.
d. The old Bank of Lenawee Building on the corner of Church and Main has been
sold and will soon open a couple of shops. Upstairs apartments will be remodeled
later.
City Report
a. City Manager, Steve Hartsel was absent but Rob talked about some available
signage that is available on US 127 and M34 advertising businesses.
b. Metalloy is finalizing issues with the EPA and DNR so they can open.
School Superintendant, Mike Osborn, said the MEAP scores show that the
Elementary students are progressing very well. The Science Olympiad students are
going to State Competition. The Middle School Band is going to compete at the
State level and the Cheer team placed 2nd in the State Competition.

b. The LEDC is hosting an eBay Workshop on Mar 16th at 6PM. Advance registration

City Report
a. City Manager, Steve Hartsel said that the CAA will be coordinating the
re-start of Project Good start.
b. The City will be included in several construction projects this summer;
Resurfacing of US 127 from the State line to M-34 will start April 15th ;
Resurfacing M-34 from US 127 to M 156; Munson Hwy from M-34 South to the City
Limits; Replacement of the Jackson Street Lift Station.
c. Several other infrastructure projects are in the planning stage i.e.; two
remaining City parking lots downtown, repaving of Pleasant St., acquiring a
street light for downtown as a spare.
d. Metalloy is close to securing enough financing to open on a limited basis to
start.
e. Several special events are being planned for the summer to attract people to
town.

a. Randy Darr announced plans for an athletic group to open a sports equipment
exchange if they can find a suitable space. People could donate no longer needed
sports equipment and others in need could have it for a donation. Bruce offered
the small side store on Market St. behind Subway.

a. Joanne is working on coordinating the community calendar for publication. We
discussed the need to group events together to draw people into Hudson.
b. Discussed ideas for projects to work on over the coming year: A Hudson car
festival celebrating the Hudson Hornet. Moving the Farmers Market back to the
Community Center lot on Saturdays. Showing videos in the downtown park.
c. Bean Creek Festival organizational meeting will be Feb 11 at the Community
Center.
d. Discussed several options for signage to show drivers the way into downtown.
City Report
a. City Manager, Steve Hartsel said that the CAA would be coordinating the
disbursement of funds for weather proofing homes in the area. Shelly Woods at
the City Office is the contact person.
b. The City will be included in several construction projects this summer;
Resurfacing of US 127 from the State line to M-34; Resurfacing M-34 from US 127
to M 156; Munson Hwy from M-34 South to the City Limits; Replacement of the
Jackson Street Lift Station.
c. The City building at 306 W Main is finished and ready to lease.
d. The City has replaced the “off white” colored lights on some of the downtown
trees. The new lights are white. The cost is about $125 per tree and anyone can
donate money to help.

a. Angie introduced Teresa Sellars, owner of the new variety store on Church St.
Angie also announced the name of her store will change to “Small Town Variety
and Crafts” and will have a grand re-opening near the end of the month.
b. Karen Miller is working on placemats with local ads on them. 7,000 of them
will cost $488 with ads @ $32 each. Motion by Rob, 2nd by Ron to purchase the
mats with ads of $32 for members and $50 for non-members. Approved.
c. Dave announced that Hornet Mfg was hiring a spot welder.

The new City Manager Steve Hartsel introduced the new Deputy City Clerk, Shelly
Woods.
Under Old Business:

c. The Heritage Festival Committee had their wrap up meeting last nite and will
not meet again until January.
Under new business
a. Members discussed the need to develop a Marketing Plan for the City. The plan
needs to take advantage of the existing events that are held by various entities
throughout the City. It also needs to have a coordinated calendar consolidating
all events so the citizens can see what is taking place in the City at any one
time.
b. Dave reported on the LEDC and said that they are having an informational
meeting in Hudson on 10/22 at the Community Center. Chamber members are
encouraged to attend. Reservations may be made through their website at:
www.lenaweeeconomicdevelopment.org
c. Workshops are being offered through the LEDC on getting funded, Insurance,
and marketing.
d. Mike Osborne reported on the millage on the upcoming ballot. He said is a
continuation of the non-homestead millage and not a new tax.
e. Downtown trick or treating will be on the 31st from 10AM to 12 Noon. Cathy
will members know when the costume judging will be held at the Fire Department.
f. The Chamber will sponsor a “Meet the Manager” open house at the Community
center on Nov 10 from 5PM to 7PM to meet the new City Manager. Motion by Bruce
2nd by Duane to authorize up to $200 to defray costs of this event.
City Report
a. Steve Hartsel is looking forward to working with the Chamber and the LEDC to
promote Hudson. He also advised that MDOT will be resurfacing US 127 from Ohio
to M34 and into town. This will take place next summer. Steve advised that MDOT
will no longer maintain the stop light in town.
b. The downtown façade project is wrapping up and Claude Rowley is finishing the
interior of 306 W Main St.

a. The "Clean the Bean" project will take place on August 22. Volunteers need to
meet at the Soccer park at 10 AM ready to work.
b. Members discussed the need to develop a Marketing Plan for the City. The plan
needs to take advantage of the existing events that are held by various entities
throughout the City. It also needs to have a coordinated calendar consolidating
all events so the citizens can see what is taking place in the City at any one
time.
c. The Heritage Festival will take place on Sept 11, 12, and 13. A motion by Rob
to contribute up to $300 to the Festival Committee for Porti-potties. Second by
Cathy. Approved.
d. Dave has had some difficulties in obtaining the license for the Texas Holdem
tourney’s in Adrian.
City Report
a. Charlie Weir reported that the new water tower has passed all tests and will
be painted and put on line soon.
b. The downtown façade project is nearly finished and Chamber members commented
on how well the downtown looks with the new facelift.

a. The “Clean the Bean” project will take place on August 22. A $2,125 grant has
been approved for this project.
c. The advertising on the “big screen” at the theater, will be going on for
another month. Any body having feedback on this program please contact President
Dave or Treasurer Marie.
e. The Heritage Festival committee is meeting Thursday to lay out the footprint
for the festival. This will determine where many of the events will be located.
f. LA Café in Adrian is sponsoring several Texas Hold’em tournaments and
proceeds will go to charitable organizations. At least two members of the
organization must be present at the event. Chamber members should sign up for
the time/date slots available. July 9-4PM to 9PM & 9PM to2AM; Jul 10-9PM to 2AM;
Jul 11-9PM to 2AM; Jul 12-12PM to 4PM & 9PM to 2AM; July 30-4PM to 9PM & 9PM to
2AM; Jul 31-9PM to 2AM; Aug 1-12PM to 4PM & 9PM to 2AM; Aug 2-12PM to 4PM & 9PM
to 2PM. The more slots we fill the more potential we have to put much needed
funds in our account.
g. Discussed decorations for fall as in past years. No decision was made at this
time.
City Report
a. The façade program is under way and people are encouraged to look at the work
that has been completed so far.
b. Dave called attention to a website: www.michigan.gov/drive that shows all
road construction in the state.

Dave briefed the members on the Membership Drive now underway.
Applications are trickling in and we currently have 37 paid members

Rob is linking the URL’s from business’s that have websites, and are paid
up, to the Chamber site. Check your link to be sure that it is working properly.
c.
When advertising or promoting your business don’t forget to include a
tagline promoting Hudson and local shopping etc.
d.
There are workshops available through the County Economic Development
office for business’s.
Under new
business
a. Bean
Creek Access project grant application is in to the DNR. We now just wait until
word is sent down of approval or disapproval. The west bank of Bean Creek from
M-34 north to the Historic RR Bridge would get a concrete block walkway and new
vegetation with a wooden ramp for handicap access under the RR Bridge.
b. Frank
spoke on the “Clean the Bean” project to take place on August 22. A $2,000
grant is being sought for this clean-up project as well as volunteers from many
local organizations.
c. The
advertising on the “big screen” at the theater, will be going on for another

e. The
Heritage Festival committee is having a meeting to lay out the footprint for the

City Report

work that has been completed so far. Frank said some of the business’s that
withdrew from the project are being contacted to get back in.
b.
There are some electrical problems with the new K&S wire welding plant.
Frank explained that it is not a capacity problem but rather a phase problem.
c.
The food pantry is always in need of condiments, sugar, and other
staples.

Meeting of March 11, 2009
Members and guests met for a Chamber After Hours meeting at
the Hudson Public Library, where they were greeted by a display of prints from
the Picturing America series. Library staff had also set up a wonderful desert
table highlighted by a chocolate fountain. After some great chocolate snacks
and viewing the prints, the meeting was called to order by President Dave Sheely
at 5:13 PM with 18 Members present Winners of the Chamber sponsored
advertisement at the Hudson Cinema were announced. Hudson Pharmacy, T.J. Decker
Insurance Agency, and Dr. Johanna Schmidt will have their business advertised on
the Big Screen.
Dave briefed members on the progress of the façade project
underway and advised that the company doing the work is first rate and hopes to
be completed by July 1st.
The sign committee has had one meeting and discussed
several issues they want to change in the City ordinance but still make it fair
to all in order to encourage business in the downtown.
Member websites have been linked to the Chamber site by
Rob Hall and are working well.
The “Clean the Bean” project will take place on August
22. A $2,000 grant is being sought for this clean-up project as well as
volunteers from many local organizations.
Compliments were paid to the youth bowling teams who did
very well at the State competition.
A drawing was held for door prizes donated by First
Federal Bank
Prizes were won by Mike of Hudson Lanes, Bruce of Just a
Buck Store, and Dave of Karens Uptown Café.

Meeting was called to order by President Dave Sheely at 7:30AM 12 Members

Minutes of the November meeting were approved
Treasurer’s report was read and approved.
Under Old Business:
a. Dave briefed the members on the Membership Drive now underway. The
application has been emailed to all those with known email addresses. Marie and
helpers have half of the letters mailed and continue to work on the rest. Marie
read a list of the 15 paid up members to date.
b. Rob has linked the URL’s from business’s that have websites, and are paid up,
to the Chamber site.
c. A motion by Duane, 2nd by Ron to have the Chamber list business’s that are
available for sale on the Chamber Website. Dave or Rob needs Sq ft available,
Address, Photo, and contact phone number.
d. The sign ordinance was again discussed and Dave said that a committed from
DDA, City, Planning, and Chamber was being formed. Angie and Duane have agreed
to serve on this committee. Comments were heard from Mark about his efforts in
canvassing several businesses along Main St. There was a general feeling that
they bought along Main St due to the visibility there as opposed to the side
streets. Some compromise will be necessary to satisfy all.
Under new business
a. Rob briefed members on the Bean Creek Access project he and Bruce have been
working on. The State has several million dollars in grant monies that they have
to spend each year on land acquisition and/or public access projects. The west
bank of Bean Creek from M-34 north to the Historic RR Bridge would get a
concrete block walkway and new vegetation with a wooden ramp for handicap access
under the RR Bridge. A motion by Frank, 2nd by Ron to have the Chamber write a
letter of support was passed unanimously.
b. Frank spoke on a “Clean the Bean” project to take place on August 22. A
$2,000 grant is being sought for this clean-up project as well as volunteers
from many local organizations. A motion by Rob, 2nd by Duane to have the Chamber
write a letter of support for this project as well as contribute $75.00 as part
of the match for the grant.
c. Dave passed out sample marketing logo that encouraged citizens to shop
locally instead of taking their business out of town. Also businesses should
incorporate these catch phrases in their advertising.
d. After an offer of advertising on the “big screen” at the theater, Bruce made
a motion, 2nd by Dennis to have the Chamber conduct a monthly drawing for 4 paid
up members to have their business advertised on the theater screen before the
shows. This would be paid for by the Chamber at $100 per month. This is for a
three month trial.
e. The Heritage Festival committee is again looking for volunteers to help with
putting on the 2009 festival. It is scheduled for September. There is an indoor
garage sale fund raiser on Feb 20 and 21 at the Community Center.
City Report
a. The façade program is under way and Mark commented that the work looks very
good and is a worthwhile investment. Frank said it may be possible for some of
the business’s that withdrew from the project to get back in. The low bid is now
very attractive and contracts will be sent out next week.
b. Metaloy foundry has been purchased and should open around April. They expect
to employ around 25. A couple of M&S buildings are in the purchase/lease process
with prospects of employing as many as 100.
c. Frank announced that Kimberly Murphy will be leaving the City and taking the
position of Assistant County Administrator. Her void will be hard to fill
especially while the City is in a financial bind.

Under Old Business:
a.
Dave briefed the members on the Membership Drive now underway. The
application has been emailed to all those with known email addresses. Mailings
will be sent out to those without email soon. Marie and Jan will help fold and
put the notices in envelopes for mailing. Those needing/wanting plaques need to
let Dave know and others will get the window clings. Marie made a motion, 2nd
by Duane to give free membership to any member recruiting 2 new members.

Rob was absent so could not update Chamber on the status of links of the
URL’s from business’s that have websites to the Chamber site. All three banks
are linked on the website and have good information available.
Under new
business
a. City
signage program was discussed and will be developed by a joint committee from
DDA, Planning Commission, and the City Council. Changes need to be made to the
sign ordinance. Any member having photos or suggestions from other communities
in Michigan should contact the City Manager.
b. Additions
to the Website being considered are links to the SBA for those looking to start
a new business, a list of available commercial properties in the City, and a
calendar of events.
c. Dave
showed us a sample marketing logo to encourage citizens to shop locally instead
of taking their business out of town. Frank commented that local plant closings
have forced citizens to seek work outside of the area. Any suggestions to
encourage local shopping should be given to Dave.
City Report
a.
The façade program is moving along after the 3 round of bidding dropped
the total from 400 thousand to 165 thousand. There are 7 buildings currently in
the grant. Bruce thanked the business’s that stuck out the lengthy process.
b.
Metaloy foundry has been purchased and should open around April. They
expect to employ around 25. M&S building has been purchased by Rex and Kim
Murphy for building cabinets. Other M&S buildings have been looked at with
interest but no buyers have come forward as of yet.
c.
Kiwanis delivered the Christmas Baskets on Dec 23. Frank expressed their
appreciation for Chamber assistance.
d.
The Museum and 306 W. Main st. are nearly complete. Much brick work
needed to be done but they are looking good.
e.
Joanne listed some events at the Library: Jan 31 is a Scrabble Day, Feb
20, 21 is an indoor yard sale at the Community Center, May 20-The WWII bus will
be in town, Sep 11,12,13-The Bean Creek Heritage Festival takes place.
General Information
a.
If you are approached by Home Town Productions to be included on a map,
this is not a Chamber sponsored activity.
b.
MIOSHA is looking into implementing ergonomics into all businesses. This
will involve training and updating some equipment.

looking at having an open house in January.

City Report
a.
The rear of the Museum is nearly complete and should be viewed. The City
will be opening the bids for the other buildings tomorrow night. There has been
much more interest than last time and bids are expected to come in lower.
b.
The roof on the Community Center will be replaced due to age and leaks.
c.
Kiwanis will deliver Christmas Baskets on Dec 23 They could use help
with deliveries. Motion by Frank 2nd by Marie to donate $150 to
Kiwanis for the food baskets. Approved
d.
DDA is looking at a common theme to use for public downtown signage. A
frame signs without permits will be removed by DPW as they are starting to
clutter up Main St.
e.
Frank reported there has been some interest in some of the empty
commercial buildings.
Sukhi reported that he is
expanding his store, adding fuel pumps and opening a BBQ takeout.

representative from the “Bar-B-Que Company was on hand to discuss their “Grand
Opening”. Matt will inform us on the time and date when he finds out.
b. The group
was reminded that this is the 175th weekend celebration so make it
special.
c. Duane
reported on the sustainability group’s progress and said that projects will be
on display at his business on Mechanic St this weekend. Also the Farmers Market
is winding down but vendors are looking forward to next year.
d. We
discussed sending out a Christmas letter after exchanging names on our mailing
lists. That way by sending out 100 letters each business reaches over 700
people.
City Report
a.
Frank said there will be a short dedication of the war memorial at 3:30
PM after the parade. The water tower will be turned on next week. The food
pantry is running low on funds and food due to heavy use.
b.
The façade program bids came in way over budget and so the specs are
being revised and the project will be re-bid.
c.
Festival schedules are out and can be picked up at the City Office.
d.
LeAnne Minton reported that her tree planting program has now planted
over 100 trees and only needs 75 more to reach the goal of 175.

Under Old Business:
a. Rob
Hall reported that the City wide garage sale went very well and the only
complaint he heard was that it shouldn’t be two days. There were a lot of out of
town people in town for the event.
b. Kim
and Joanne reported that the celebration scheduled for Sep 12, 13, and 14 is
coming together but they could still use some volunteers. Kim listed off some
of the events planned and said that there are over 70 participants registered
for the parade already. Ron Haber is MC’ing the stage events on Fri and Sat
morning and they are looking for an alternate for the afternoons.
Under new
business
a. A
representative from the “Bar-B-Que Company on south Main was present and talked
about their future plans to expand.
b. The group
was reminded that this is a race weekend and there will be a lot of traffic
passing through town.
c. Duane
reported on the sustainability group’s progress and said that Hornet Mfg was
working on a prototype of a vertical vane wind generator.
d. Matt
chaired a discussion on having some small events throughout the upcoming buying
season. Dates were given for some of the upcoming events. Downtown Trick or
Treat will be Sat Oct 25 from 10AM to 12 Noon.The Thanksgiving parade will be on
Nov 20th. The Christmas Cantata and Hospice Tree lighting dates are
to be announced later.
e. Discussed
lighting the bean creek walking trail and the possibility of setting up displays
along the path.
City Report
a. Frank
described the War Monument being constructed on the NW corner of Main and Lane
St. A committee has been formed to look at downtown decorations. The water
tower is ready to go on line any day. Several streets will be chip n sealed in
the next week or two.

Sanborn reported that the Sustainability Group meetings are drawing a diverse
group from neighboring communities. They discuss all types of alternative
energy, recycling, coops and other means of sustaining our lives here on this
earth. He and Dave commented on the excitement exuded by the group.
c. The
Farmers Market has begun and has three or four vendors so far. It is still
early in the season and should pick up as the crops ripen.

Manager reported that the Mayor Exchange day went well and thanked the Chamber
for their support.
b. The
downtown façade program is moving ahead with a few issues to be resolved. A
change to the lease of the Museum let that building back into the project.
c. It looks
like one of the M & S buildings may be sold to a small manufacturer and should
act as a catalyst to move the other buildings.
d. There
will be no council primary election as there are three candidates running for
two seats.

Meeting was called to order by President Matt Perkins at

Minutes of the April meeting were read and approved
Treasurer’s report was read and approved. Marie also
reported that all 22 banners have been sold to sponsors.
She also reported that we currently have 37 paid members.
Under Old Business:
a. The
175th Anniversary T shirts have 55 sponsors and are available at the
City Office for $12 with all proceeds going to the anniversary committee.
b. The school election saw the school board remain
the same while the sinking fund proposal failed.
Under new
business
a. Mayor
Exchange Day is happening today with representatives of Paw Paw arriving here at
9 AM.
b. Matt
attended a 3 hour meeting of the Adrian Area Chamber and the Lenawee Economic
Development group.
He
reported that the group discussed a merger and some discussion was held in our
group about misgivings and reservations we have with joining that merger. He
also reported that there might be a reduced health insurance cost to businesses
involved with the Chamber. Individuals should check with their respective
carriers.
c. Matt
passed out a sample Farmers Market organizational agreement used by a group in
the east. With our farmers market growing it may be necessary to have a more
formal agreement among the parties involved.
The
market will start in June and be open on Wednesday afternoons and Friday
mornings.
City Report
a. Frank
handed out the itinerary for today’s events with the village of Paw Paw and
invited Chamber members to take part.
b. There are
some issues with the City’s sign ordinance and business owners are not removing
signs from buildings after they have closed and have not been getting proper
permits.
c. A job
fair was held in conjunction with the School, South Central Michigan Works to
target the hiring of local people for some of the expansion by industries in
Hudson.
d. Joanne
Crater reported that a traveling museum will be in Hudson Friday morning at the
Market House.
Local Business
News: Owners of multiple businesses are only required to hold one membership in
the Chamber of Commerce, not one for each business owned.

a. The Slate of Officers for 2008 was

b. Eagle Funeral won the $50 prize for having
the best decorated business.
c. Kim Murphy and Joanne Crater of the 175th
Celebration Committee gave a report on
activities planned for the year. The main event
week end will be Sept 12,13,and 14 with a parade
on Saturday afternoon. Several fundraisers are
in progress and/or planned for the year to help
defray expenses for the celebration. Rides and
fireworks are scheduled along with a Historical
Home tour, Tractor Pull, Rib Cook-off, Art Show,
Car shows, a dedication of the Patriot Memorial,
and other events.
d. Dave Sheely handed out dues renewals and
applications.
Under new business
a. Banners for the downtown to commemorate
the 175th birthday celebration were
discussed. New banners will cost $50 each and
there are 11 of them. Business’s can sponsor one
or more and have there name placed on the banner
if they pay the cost. Joanne, Marie, and Dave
will serve as a design committee for the
banners.
b. Duane Sanborn has scheduled a meeting for
anyone interested in “Sustainability and Self
Sufficiency. It will be held at the Community
Center on January 31, 2008 at 7PM. Motion by Rob
Hall seconded by Jim Bloch to have the Chamber
sponsor the meeting at no cost. Approved.
c. Dave reported that Hudson is hosting an
invitational floor hockey tournament on Feb 16
and 17 and there will be 50 teams along with
parents and others in town for the
event. Businesses that want to put together a
flyer should get them to Dave or Chris Bloomer
prior to Feb 1 to be sent out to all the
teams. These flyers may direct visitors to check
out businesses in the area.
d. Dave reported that 650 bicyclers and there
support teams will spend the night in Hudson on
June 25. Businesses may want to do something
special for these visitors. More discussion
later.
c. The Hudson promotional video was viewed
and several suggestions were made to be
incorporated.
City Report
a. Frank reported that downtown façade grants
have received favorable reviews from the State.
b. Winter sidewalks need to be cleaned after
ice and/or snow
c. The City is addressing a problem with
grease being introduced into the sewers by some
of the local restaurants.
d. There is a problem with some signage in
the downtown area and even temporary
signs/banners need a permit from the City.
e. He invited Chamber members to the Kiwanis
meeting on Tuesday to view the video again.
Local Business News: The old Williams Meats
on N. Maple Grove will be opening as a full deli
in Feb.
